A native of Kiev, Vladimir Horunzhy music career began at the age of 5 when he received his first piano lesson. Within two years, he composed his first original piece. He studied piano and composition at Lisenko Music School (similar to Juilliard School) and Kiev Conservatory of Music. An active jazz musician, Vladimir performed at Soviet jazz festivals in Tallinn, Moscow, Donetsk and throughout the Soviet Union.
At age 26 he became principal conductor and staff composer for the Ukrainian National TV and Radio Orchestra in Kiev. Living in Budapest, Vladimir composed and conducted for Hungarian State Orchestra and performed at various International Jazz Festivals throughout Europe. Entering the realm of film scoring, he scored feature films TV movies and animation starting in USSR and Hungary.
In 1981 Vladimir came to New York, where he had the opportunity to work with such jazz greats as George Benson, Michael Brecker, Marcus Miller, Omar Hakim and Michael Urbaniak, to name just a few. In the course of his work, Vladimir met film composing giant Jerry Goldsmith. Orchestrating for and studying with the Master, Vladimir further refined his art of film scoring.
